What you’ve been reading in 2014
Happy New Year road trippers! Thanks so much for joining me by reading this blog and following my adventures on social media. 2014 was an awesome year of travel for me, with my biggest adventure in August starting in Vancouver, followed by an epic road trip through Alaska, the Yukon and the Arctic Circle! I was also really lucky to spend Christmas road trippin’ through the beautiful and magical Scottish Highlands, which you can read about on my other site in this post; A Fairytale Christmas with Haggis Adventures! I hope you have had a great year of road trippin’ too!
I haven’t had quite as much time to blog as I would have liked in 2014, although if you follow my adventures on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter – or my other blog, kookytraveller.com, you’ll know what I’ve been up to – 2014 was a pretty exciting and busy year for me!
Top 5 blog posts in 2014
Road trippin’ USA is still less than a year old but here’s a round-up of the top 5 blog post you’ve read the most – and hopefully found useful. A lot of you have definitely been interested in reading about Trek America! I used to be a brand ambassador for Trek America, although that was before I started this blog; that scheme ended in September 2013. I still love Trek America (and their sister company Grand American Adventures) so I’m happy to share my tips through this blog. Most of these posts are relevant to anyone looking to join a small group adventure travel tour though. Anyway, here’s the top 5:
1. Find your Trek America buddies in 5 steps!
It can be great to find your travel buddies in advance of joining a trek or other group tour; this post explains how to do it.
2. Travelling solo on a group tour
Over the years I’ve had lots of emails from people wondering what it’s like to travel solo on a group tour. In short, the answer is, group tours can be perfect for solo travellers. This post explains why.
3. Trek America discounts
Just because the Trek America brand ambassador scheme has finished doesn’t mean you can’t still get an awesome deal on a trek, whether you are a new or existing trekker. This post details all the ways in which you can grab yourself a bargain!
4. Why find your Trek buddies before your tour?
If you’re joining a group tour, you might never have thought about why it can be both useful and fun to find your new travel buddies in advance of your trip. This post provides some reasons why you might want to.
5. Tweet the Trexpert again!
Last year Trek America invited me to host a couple of Twitter chats, answering all your questions about travelling with them; they also branded me as their Trexpert, which was lovely, a little geeky and kinda fun! In the last 5 years I have been on 7 treks with them although I’ve been travelling solo and on group adventure travel tours around the world for over 12 years, so I’ve clocked up a fair few miles and picked up lots of tips and experience along the way!
My road trippin’ plans for 2015
I don’t currently have any immediate plans to travel to North America, but you never know what might happen. I’d absolutely love to visit Alaska again, explore more of Canada and I’ve never been to Yellowstone – I would jump at any opportunity to get up close with more bears in the wild again! Seeing 18 grizzly bears in Denali National Park, Alaska in one single day was a huge dream come true for me! I also adore the Deep South and not just for the amazing food and music! My kooky side really loves Route 66 and even though I’ve road tripped parts of it, I would love to do the whole route; will it happen in 2015? Who knows. That’s no bad thing though, for now I’m happy to wait and see what opportunities 2015 presents me with.
I do have plans to share lots more of what I have been up to though, as I’ve got loads of photos, stories to tell and tips to share!
Have a Happy New Year in 2015!

Loved traveling some parts of Route 66. Yellowstone is one road trip that is very interesting, especially because the park is open only for a short time.
And the South is always great. Somewhere along I-10 sounds good.

I definitely want to get to Yellowstone soon – I keep seeing photos online – maybe it’s a sign! 😀
